WEEKEND ORCHESTRAL WORKSHOP
In memory of Babs Yule (1920-2010)
Witold Lutosławski: CONCERTO FOR ORCHESTRA
String, trumpet, tuba and percussion/keyboard players of a high standard (grade 7/8+) are invited to join St Albans Symphony Orchestra and its conductor, Bjorn Bantock, for this workshop to prepare and perform Lutosławski’s spectacular Concerto for Orchestra.
The workshop starts with a Friday evening play-through. Sectional tutorials led by professional instrumentalists will take place on the Saturday morning, followed by further rehearsal and an informal, early-evening performance,
The Concerto for Orchestra requires a large orchestra. Requests to take part are invited from string players (all sections). We also need two trumpet players, a tuba and percussionists, including tuned percussion / keyboard players. We especially welcome young musicians, including students, who may take part free of charge.
The workshop is subsidised by a generous legacy from the late Babs Yule, a long-time friend of the orchestra. We will, however, be making out usual charge of £20 for visiting adult players towards the cost of engaging professional tutors, plus music and venue hire.
To apply to take part, please email details of your name, address, instrument and playing background to d.utting@ntlworld.com or write to David Utting, St Albans Symphony Orchestra, 250 Sandridge Road, St Albans, AL1 4AL.
