SIR EDWARD ELGAR: SYMPHONY NO 2 IN E-FLAT MAJOR

String players of a high standard (grade 7/8+) are invited to join St Albans Symphony Orchestra for this workshop to prepare and perform Elgar’s passionate and technically demanding Second Symphony. The workshop starts with a Friday evening play-through. Sectional tutorials led by professional instrumentalists will take place on the Saturday morning. The afternoon rehearsal will take place in St Saviour’s Church culminating in a public concert performance (7.30pm start).

Edward_Elgar_signatureThe workshop and concert will be conducted by Bjorn Bantock, SASO’s Principal conductor from 2010 to 2015, making a welcome guest return.

The symphony requires a large orchestra. Requests to take part are invited from string players (all sections, including harp). We especially welcome young musicians, including students.

The workshop is subsidised by a generous legacy from the late Babs Yule, a long-time friend of the orchestra. We will be charging our audience admission (£5) to the concert, but there is no charge this year for visiting players.

To apply to take part, please email details of your name, address, instrument and playing background to:
