Calling string players: play wonderful Walton with SASO! (workshop evening August 31 & daytime September 1)

External string players are warmly invited to take part in a two-day workshop with St Albans Symphony Orchestra to prepare and perform Walton’s dazzling and technically demanding First Symphony

The workshop starts with a Friday evening play-through on 31 August. Sectional tutorials led by professional instrumentalists will take place on the morning of Saturday 1 September. The afternoon rehearsal will be followed by an informal play-through for friends and family.

The workshop will be conducted by Tom Hammond, SASO’s Principal conductor and is subsidised by a generous legacy from the late Babs Yule, a long-time friend of the orchestra.

It is taking place at Marlborough Academy, Watling Street, St Albans, AL1 2QA

We will be making a charge of £20 for visiting adult players towards the cost of engaging professional tutors, plus music and venue hire. However, the workshop is free of charge for young musicians, including students.

To apply to take part, please email details of your name, address, instrument and playing background to chair@saso.org.uk or write to David Utting, St Albans Symphony Orchestra, 250 Sandridge Road, St Albans, AL1 4AL.
