Conductor: William Carslake
Holst: The Perfect Fool ballet music
Barber: Violin Concerto with David Le Page, violin
Dvorák: Symphony No.9, From the New World
Sibelius: The Swan of Tuonela
The orchestra would like to dedicate this concert to Tom Hammond, our Principal Conductor, who sadly died in December. One of his passions was the music of Sibelius so we will be remembering him by performing The Swan of Tuonela.
The Perfect Fool is a one-act opera, a parody of more serious operatic works (by Verdi, Wagner and Debussy).
The orchestra welcomes David Le Page again, to perform American composer Samuel Barber’s dazzling Violin Concerto.
We anticipate the ‘New World’s Independence Day with one of classical music’s best loved works, Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No.9.
