Clarinet star Emma Johnson to perform with SASO
Clarinettist Emma Johnson – a national celebrity since winning BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1984 – will perform with SASO’s in a concert of English music on 24 June (7.30pm, St Saviour’s Church, Sandpit Lane, St Albans AL1 4DF).
Designated by The Times newspaper as “Britain’s favourite clarinettist”, she will play the poignant concerto Lost Lanes, Shadow Groves by acclaimed contemporary composer James Francis Brown.
Also in the programme, SASO with conductor Tom Hammond will perform A London Symphony by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, an evocation of the capital city that is, by turns, rumbustious, lyrical, searingly intense and heart-warmingly evocative. Three sprightly English Dances by Malcolm Arnold complete the programme.
